Pre-School children at Rydal Penrhos took part in a series of coastal-themed activities as part of their summer half-term project.

The youngest members of the Preparatory School community began work on everything related to the Seaside, where they were tasked with some interesting and fun-filled learning tasks under the guidance and support of dedicated staff within the departments.

The group began by collecting a wide variety of different shells from their Coastal School sessions – using them to make some creative patterns – before turning their prole play into a mock-beach.

They also constructed their very own mini-boats using materials found along the beach, and their artistic skills were also enhanced with observational drawing of the shells collected, discussing their differing patterns and texture throughout.

Pre-School staff member Nikki Taylor, who runs the Coastal School initiative and has a Level Three Coastal Leader award, said: “Having coastal school seeing fits in great with this topic, and the children taking part have already gained a massive insight of beach life from the thought-provoking activities we have organised for them so far.

“The sessions have been designed to incorporate topical work from the classroom through various problem-solving methods along the picturesque Colwyn Bay coastline, which will test pupils’ creativity, investigative techniques, numeracy and literacy.

“They were all brilliant throughout and hopefully this can continue leading up to their summer holidays.”
