We have a 25m pool on campus (on Combermere Road) which enables us to run comprehensive swim programmes. The pool is staffed by specialist swim teachers and our Head of Swimming, Mr Ruszkowski, whose daughter is a Rydal Penrhos pupil and part of the Swim Wales international squad.
Swimming is taught throughout the year from Reception through to Year 9. During these classes pupils learn how to swim and work on developing their technical ability. Squad swim sessions take place during lunchtime and after school. Pupils from all year groups train together to improve their performance in preparation for regional and national competitions, in addition to swimming fixtures against other schools.
Rydal Penrhos hosts two galas every year, one of which is the regional qualifier for the National Urdd Swimming finals which are held in Cardiff every January. Pupils from Years 3 to 13 compete, with many of our swimmers returning from Cardiff as multiple medal winners in both individual and team events.
Other swimming fixtures are calendared throughout the season and one of the highlights of the season is the Inter-House gala, when the pool is a hive of excitement with lots of house points up for grabs and school records to be broken.
There are regular opportunities to become a qualified lifeguard, or to complete a PADI open-water scuba diving qualification. Please see http://senior.rydalpenrhos.com/sport/public_access/ for more information about these courses.
