April 21, 2020

Rydal Penrhos has further aided the fight against coronavirus across the region with another donation of equipment.

The school has distributed 500 sets of protective eyeglasses to local nursing and care homes throughout the community, providing additional PPE for those in need during an unprecedented time.

These have come from Rydal Penrhos’ Design Technology, Physics and Chemistry departments and is the latest initiative from the school to assist during the current and ever-changing situation relating to Covid-19.

Sixth Former Jamie Lavery, teacher Mark Harmsworth and technician James Bonser have now produced more than 1,000 protective masks for NHS staff and critical keyworkers using 3D printers, with a crowdfunding page relating to the project surpassing its £2,500 target after an incredible response.

The school has also opened its boarding accommodation to critical keyworkers, in addition to their community keyworker childcare provision.

Senior School head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Keyworker staff across the country are doing some extraordinary work during a time of crisis and we are only too happy to help in whatever way we can.

“We have always been extremely proud of our community involvement here at Rydal Penrhos, which is more significant than ever throughout the coronavirus pandemic.”
