March 2, 2020

A talented track and field star at Rydal Penrhos has earned selection to a regional squad after a series of outstanding results.

Jonathan Osbourne, a Year 9 pupil at the school, has been invited to join the North Wales regional squad after impressing selectors considerably at competitive events during the campaign.

The teenager’s latest competition saw him travel to the Etihad Stadium for the City of Manchester Indoor Championships, where Jonathan achieved new personal best times in the 60-metre sprint and High Jump.

This is the latest in a series of notable achievements from the pupil, who has worked incredibly hard to improve all areas of his Athletics during school sessions and at his local club in Colwyn Bay.

Jonathan will also participate in a special sprint training session with Wales Athletics this Saturday, which is going to be another valuable experience for the aspiring youngster.

It has been a fine season so far for Jonathan, who claimed no fewer than three gold medals at the North Wales Indoor Athletics Championships in Deeside to start the year with a bang.

Senior School head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Jonathan is richly deserving of his North Wales regional squad selection and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is absolutely thrilled for him.

“He trains incredibly hard, balances this incredibly well with his studies and is such a polite young man. Jonathan is a real credit to himself, his family and the teaching staff who are helping him achieve his goals.”
