Rydal Penrhos Daily Notes – April 15

Day 18 – 12 pupils, 5 staff

This morning the pupils were challenged to complete the 30 picture art challenge. They were given a time limit (1 hour) and a list of subjects and asked to do a mini picture to represent each one.

Perhaps we should all try this as it is not as easy as it sounds. How do you represent ‘happiness’ as a picture? What’s the pictorial representation of ‘famous’? It certainly kept our children busy and they came up with some very thought-provoking ideas.

It’s definitely easier keeping children happy when they can go outside and we are so lucky to have fantastic school grounds coupled with sunshine!

A new challenge awaited the group in the afternoon when they went down to the astro pitches for a hockey session with Mr Rippon and Mr Mcleod. They used age-appropriate equipment but even the smallest plastic sticks looked quite oversized in the hands of three and four-year-olds!

How brilliant they all turned out to be and the skill development was rapid once it was understood that the sticks had to “stay on the ground” and that “ they are not swords”!

The staff arrived back looking totally exhausted, the pupils were still super excited and ready for their next challenge!

The resilience of youth overtaking the experience of those who like to think they are still young!
