Mrs Roberts’ Pre-School blog: January 31
January 31, 2020

Pre-School head Louise Roberts brings us an account of a very busy few days at the department in her weekly blog, which saw the youngest members of the Rydal Penrhos community continue their space topic.

Our Moon

This week the children looked at the phases of the moon and discussed their sightings of it during their short lives so far.

We chatted about what it must have felt like to be the first man to walk on the moon and pretended to walk in space just like an Astronaut!

In Literacy, each member of the Pre-School department created a group book describing the moon and used the nursery rhyme ‘Hey, diddle, diddle’ as a stimulus for letter recognition.

In numeracy, the children sorted, counted and practiced using positional language, which proved to be another very worthwhile activity for their initial development.

Then children got the opportunity to participate in creative and discovery opportunities, which included another Coastal School session just a short distance from us in Colwyn Bay.

They also took part in their usual music and gymnastics sessions to cap off what was another very productive and fun-filled week at Pre-School.
