My first year at Rydal Penrhos senior: Violet
July 13, 2020

We caught up with members of Year 7 at Rydal Penrhos to find out what they’ve thought of their time in the senior school so far.

Fifth up in this new series is Violet Roberts, who is a member of Payne House and has made a smooth transition from Rydal Penrhos Prep School.

How have you found your first year at Rydal Penrhos?

I have found my first year in Rydal Penrhos Senior school very easy going and memorable!

What are the main differences between primary/prep and Senior School?

Probably the break times as there is no specific place that you have to go – you have more freedom. The work is fairly similar – a tiny bit harder and there are a wider variety of lessons.

How much support did you receive from the staff?

I have received plenty of support when I needed it. During the lockdown, especially, whenever I have a question, teachers are always quick to reply.

Have older members of the school community (Sixth Form) been helpful?

To be honest I haven’t needed to go to a member of the Sixth Form for help because my brother has recently left the school and was able to give me lots of advice. For a brief time before lockdown, I had a mentor called Emily who was very supportive.

Favourite lesson?

I have loved Home Economics because we have never done anything like it before. I am learning really useful skills and love eating what I make each week!

Favourite memory?

I remember my first day and getting set into our forms. I was really pleased to get Mr Richardson as a tutor, as my brother Zac had spoken very highly of him.

How did you find online learning?

I’ve found it easier than I was expecting but sometimes a little overwhelming with the amount of work. It’s nice that we were able to ask questions over Microsoft Teams as this face to face contact has made communication easy. I did miss the social side of school but all in all, online learning has been very successful.

Rydal Penrhos is now able to offer socially distanced tours to prospective pupils and their families. For more information email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com/prep@rydalpenrhos.com or book online at https://rydal.wpengine.com/open-days-visits.
