Rydal Penrhos’ RYA Sailing and Water-sports Training Centre will be holding a series of exciting activities over the October half-term break.
The Rydal Penrhos RYA Training Centre Sailing and Water-Sports provision is for all pupils who love being in, on and around the water. It enables them to participate and enjoy the freedom of boating, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking in a safe and fun environment.
Whether a beginner, intermediate or at an advanced level we have something to offer to help your child get the most from their time with us and from the water.
The location of our school, proximity to the Colwyn Bay seafront and the opportunity to partake in water sports offers a significant benefit to the delivery of an outstanding Outdoor Education programme.
Rydal Penrhos also holds activities throughout the holidays when pupils are away from school. October’s half-term break comes with “Fun Water-Sports Days” and “RYA Tuition Progression Days” for a combined four-day period from Thursday 21 October until Sunday 24.
- Fun Water-sports days: Thursday 21 and Friday 22
- RYA Tuition Progression Days: Saturday 23 and Sunday 24
These activities are for children aged between 7-17 years and non-Rydal Penrhos pupils are also welcome to attend.

RYA Progression Days
These will count towards RYA qualifications and consist of:
- Skill-building
- Refresher work
- Satisfactory demonstration

- Seamanship skills
These will be logged accordingly in each child’s RYA logbook and documentation will be provided for new starters.
We aim to certificate these two sessions where applicable for Youth Sailing Scheme from Level 1 upwards for sailing and windsurfing.
Our sessions will be led by Chief Instructor Leah Shepherd and Ben Brame. The maximum number on each course is 12 daily.
Weather and sea conditions are always taken into account to ensure the safety of our participants. However, we do intend to maximise our session with as much time in and on the water as possible each day.
The sessions will be run under RYA Cymru Covid-19 and Rydal Penrhos guidance. All water-sports equipment is provided.
