It is very important for us as a school to communicate well with parents and so we report on children’s progress in several different ways, both structured and in a more informal way. Parents receive two full academic reports each year on their child, one in February and one in July.

There is also a parents’ evening in October, which is an opportunity to catch up at the start of the academic year and to see how they are settling in, and how work is progressing.

Communication Channels  

The Class Teacher is normally the first communication link between parents and the school. This can be done either via email (preferred) or by telephone.

The Head Teacher is always happy to meet with parents by appointment.

Any reply slips sent out with electronic letters should be responded to via email prep@rydalpenrhos.com.

Other notes may also be handed to the School Reception Office. Email replies are acceptable as most correspondence from the school is now sent via email.

Reporting to Parents  

There are two Parents’ Evenings during the academic year when parents are invited to attend a meeting with their child’s class teacher. This is for all year groups including Pre-School.

Details of dates and times of these meetings are entered on the school calendar and invitation letters are sent out prior to the meeting date. The staff at Rydal Penrhos Prep School are always willing to speak with parents about a child’s progress or any queries, worries or concerns which parents may have.

Anyone wishing to make an appointment with a class teacher or Pre-School keyworker, they are asked to email the Class Teacher or telephone the School Reception Office where a note of their request will be sent to the teacher concerned.

Please note that it is very difficult for teachers to make telephone calls to parents during the school day, but they will always endeavour to contact parents or return calls after the end of the classroom hours. Written progress reports are available each term.

Class Reps Forum – Parent Representatives  

We have an established Class Representative system across the Prep School. The Class Representative role has been introduced as an important means by which the school can communicate with all parents, welcome new families into the school and seek parental assistance at school activities and social events.

Class Representatives collate and hold a parent contact list (with the permission of parents). They meet each half term together and with the Head Mrs Lucy Davies to provide feedback.

School Events

Parents and friends are warmly encouraged to attend school functions (e.g. matches, services, choral and musical occasions and drama productions).

These events are normally listed on our website calendar, or you are informed by letter or email. We do encourage parents to check the website, their emails and their child’s online class Microsoft Team and school bag for information relating to events and activities.
