Executive Principal John Waszek extends stay at Rydal Penrhos
September 28, 2020

Rydal Penrhos School is delighted to announce that Executive Principal John Waszek has agreed to stay in the post until August 2022.

Mr Waszek was due to retire in August 2021 but will now remain in the role for another year to see through Rydal Penrhos’ ambitious strategic development plan that is already having a significant benefit on those living and learning at the school.

Julian Barnes, Chair of Governors at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This brings very welcome stability for the school and assures we continue on the plan to deliver the best experience for our pupils and a very bright future.”

This is another boost for the school, with Mr Waszek having a considerable impact since taking up the position in February 2019.

His focus on improving pupils’ learning and opportunities has already brought a marked improvement in educational standards, which is further reflected with the school’s historic A Level and GCSE results this summer.

In addition to this strong academic success, Rydal Penrhos’ extra-curricular provision, outdoor education programme and university preparation are other elements to a thriving all-round education that is provided from Pre-School to Sixth Form.

Mr Waszek is a highly experienced Principal, having led St Edward’s College, Liverpool for 24 years from 1992 to 2016 during which time the school secured several “outstanding” inspections and was subsequently designated as “exempt” from inspection by the Department for Education.

Since leaving St Edward’s, Mr Waszek has been a School Effectiveness Adviser, working in a wide variety of settings with School Governors and Leadership teams on school improvement.

In addition to his various roles within education, Mr Waszek served as a non-executive Director of the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital (Alder Hey) at a very challenging time following the publication of the Redfern Report into organ retention.

Mr Waszek has a bachelors degree (first), a Masters in Economics and also obtained a PGCE in Physical Education from the University of Loughborough, an institution he represented at rugby in addition to making the English Universities squad.

Rydal Penrhos is now able to offer socially distanced tours to prospective pupils and their families.
