Jamie speaks on PPE production project during coronavirus pandemic
April 20, 2020

A Sixth Form pupil at Rydal Penrhos has been speaking on his fine work to provide PPE throughout the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jamie Lavery, a Year 13 pupil at the school, has been part of the team that is producing protective masks for NHS and keyworker facilities across the region to assist them in the fight against Covid-19.

The teenager has worked incredibly hard on producing hundreds of masks in recent weeks, with Jamie’s ability to increase production enhanced considerably by acquiring five additional 3D printers.

Jamie has turned the study in his home into a “print farm” to give himself a formal base, with the school making almost 1,000 masks to date.

He said: “The printers I am using are my Prusa, one of schools Prusa’s, a friends Creality Ender 3 and the 3D Factories Easy3DMaker which I have redesigned and rebuilt over the last few months.

“I have turned my study into a print farm with printers running 24/7 and have printed 563 visor frames so far.”

The pupil has also enlisted the help of leading jewellery firm Clogau Gold, who he has worked with previously.

Managing director Ben Roberts, who has two pupils at Rydal Penrhos, has kindly lent Jamie Clogau’s 3D printer to further assist with the PPE production.

“Due to the high demand for visors, I contacted Clogau Gold who I have worked with in the past to set up a 3D printer and advise staff on how to get the most out of it,” added Jamie.

“Ben Roberts kindly agreed to lend me their 3D printer to increase the production of visors for health workers.

“It has been great working with Mr Harmsworth and Mr Bonser on a project that has helped so many people.”
