Rydal Penrhos: 2016 leaver Alex gains 1st class degree
July 23, 2020

Former Rydal Penrhos pupil Alex Bytheway has been rewarded for his exceptional journey through higher education with an outstanding final degree mark.

Alex began his time at Rydal Penrhos as a Year 9 pupil and benefitted considerably from the school’s strong academic ethos and wide range of extra-curricular options.

He was part of the 2015/16 Prefect team before securing one A* and three A’s from his A-level examinations as a result of his efforts.

This earned Alex a place at the University of York, and he is now the proud owner of a first-class honours’ degree in Chemistry, Biological and Medicinal Chemistry.

Alex is the latest former Rydal Penrhos pupil to thrive in a higher education setting, which is a testament to the strong preparation they receive as part of their Sixth Form provision.

In addition to his impressive academic exploits at Rydal Penrhos, Alex also achieved national success in science competitions and also had his work featured at the National Big Bang Fair in Birmingham.

Current Sixth Formers will have the benefit of more than 250 hours of additional subject teaching by specialist teachers from September, and there will also be weekly lessons in PHSE and Physical Education, and a bi-weekly University Admissions lesson.

Sally-Ann Harding, senior school head of Rydal Penrhos, said: “This is an incredible achievement from Alex and one that he can be enormously proud of.

“It is always heart-warming to hear of former pupils going on to great things, which is down in no small part to the exceptional academic and extra-curricular education they receive here at Rydal Penrhos.”

Rydal Penrhos is now able to offer socially distanced tours to prospective pupils and their families. For more information email admissions@rydalpenrhos.com, prep@rydalpenrhos.com or book online at https://rydal.wpengine.com/open-days-visits.
