Rydal Penrhos is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Sarah Bollan to the role of Head of Years 11 to 13.
We recognize that a pupil’s final three years at Rydal Penrhos play a critical role in preparing them for life as an adult. During this phase of their school career, pupils complete their GCSE and A-Level exams and make significant decisions about their next steps, be that in higher education or the world of work.
To support pupils during this important period, Rydal Penrhos understands that excellent pastoral care is essential. Rydal Penrhos continually seeks to establish and reinforce the right culture and environment to promote pupil well-being, which can significantly boost not only academic success, but all-round flourishing and happiness.
Our Pastoral Leads are essential in this effort, providing a vital source of leadership and guidance to our pupils as they immerse themselves in school life. Over the years, Rydal Penrhos pupils have been motivated to incredible successes by some inspirational Heads of Sixth Form, including the likes of Mr John Matthews, Mr Peter Lavery and Mr Alun Brown.
With this in mind, we are delighted to announce the latest appointment to this important role. From September 2023, Ms Sarah Bollan will be our new Head of Years 11 to 13.
Ms Bollan is an experienced and enthusiastic member of our teaching staff team, having joined the school as a teacher of Economics and Business Studies in 2015. Since then, Ms Bollan has established herself as a firm favourite with pupils, teachers, and parents, while also playing a vital role within the school’s pastoral team as both Key Stage 3 Leader and Pastoral Lead for Years 7 to 10.
In these roles, Ms Bollan has worked closely with form tutors to support those year groups while maintaining a strong focus on the individual; something which is characteristic of the pupil-centred approach at Rydal Penrhos, which has helped drive the school towards so much recent success.
Ms Bollan will bring the same approach as she begins work with our older pupils to maximise their potential, realise their ambitions, and deliver a happy and memorable day-to-day school experience. “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role,” said Ms Bollan. “Our pupils are a true joy and I look forward to working with Year 11 to 13 and staff to create an inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued and empowered.”

Finally, Rydal Penrhos wish to take this opportunity to express our gratitude towards our outgoing Pastoral Lead for Years 11 to 13 and Teacher of English, Mr Alun Brown. We would like to thank Mr Brown for the hard work and dedication that he has shown to the school during his time at Rydal Penrhos and wish him well for the future.
