Back to School: Rydal Penrhos Previews the Final Half Term of the Academic Year
June 1, 2024

For the final time this academic year, Rydal Penrhos previews the upcoming events pupils, parents and carers can look forward to over the weeks ahead.

It has been an academic year to remember at Rydal Penrhos.

Since school started back in the first week of September, nearly nine months ago, there has been so much to celebrate.

From outstanding academic success and national sporting glory, to the continuing realisation of our goal to unify the school on one site.

Now, as pupils return to their classes on Monday, we prepare for a final flurry of achievement and celebration before the school gates close on 5 July, and a busy summer of preparation begins.

With so much taking place over the final five weeks of the academic year, we have selected five events to preview:

Whole School Sports Day

Now taking place on the rescheduled date of Friday 7 June, Sports Day is not just a fantastic showcase for our talented sportspeople, but also a great opportunity to join together as a community. With the return of FORPS and only weeks left to decide the Prep and Senior House Cup competitions, this Sports Day promises to be one of the most fun and competitive in years.

‘The Lion King Jr’

For the final drama production in the Prep Hall, pupils will be bringing an iconic story from the African savannah to life. ‘The Lion King Jr’ takes centre stage on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June. Pupils are having great fun behind the scenes practicing their parts and preparing to bring the show’s iconic characters to life. If last year’s production of ‘Mystery at Magpie Manor’ is anything to go by, expect outstanding acting, impressive singing and infectious energy!

Senior Speech Day and Leavers’ Ball

Taking place on Saturday 29 June, Speech Day is always a tremendously proud moment for pupils, parents, and carers alike. Alongside the presentation of may historic and prestigious prizes, guests can also look forward to some brilliant speeches, not least by Heads of School Will and Ruby. In the evening, the Class of 2024 will enjoy a memorable Leavers’ Ball in the Osborn Hall; a fitting venue as we say goodbye to the year group.

Whole School Walkathon

Monday 1 July will see pupils from across the school participate in this years’ Walkathon. Always a popular event since its introduction, the Walkathon will this year raise funds for Edukid, a vital charity that makes a real impact on the lives of children across the world. In October, we are delighted to partner with Edukid to offer our pupils a life-changing trip to Peru. It will be an unforgettable experience for all those involved, as the school continues to develop its Global Citizenship program.

‘Bugsy Malone’

The upcoming Year 7 to 9 production of ‘Bugsy Malone’ promises to be a vibrant showcase of talent and creativity. Set in Prohibition-era New York, the production will see our talented young performers inhabit the unique characters and unmistakable energy of this era in history. On Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 July, expect spirited performances, impressive singing, and real enthusiasm!
