Music: Rydal Penrhos Community Choir and Community Wind Band Continue to Thrive
July 21, 2023

The spring and early summer have seen many brilliant performances from the Rydal Penrhos Community Choir and Wind Band across a variety of venues, once again demonstrating their positive impact.

Music holds a special place in the heart at Rydal Penrhos School, enriching the lives of our pupils and fostering a strong bond with our local community. The Rydal Penrhos Community Wind Band and Community Choir were formed to bring people together after the pandemic and support music in our communities. Both groups have seen considerable growth since then, bringing joy to both their members and audiences lucky enough to see them perform.

The spring and early summer has been a busy and successful period for both groups. They have flown the flag for Rydal Penrhos at several standout events, including a concert at St John’s Methodist Church, Llandudno, on Wednesday 28 June. The Wind Band took their talents to the stage as part of the Colwyn Bay PromXtra event on 13 May, while also performing on the Llandudno bandstand in the first week of June.

The Community Wind Band and Community Choir are made up of musicians with different abilities and backgrounds, including current pupils, alumni, parents, former parents, members of staff, local residents, and friends of the school. Special mention should go to Year 13 pupil Ethan Bytheway, who performed in the Wind Band during his final year at the school, giving an impressive performance during the Community Concert in the Memorial Hall in March.

We look forward to hearing more from the Community Choir and Community Wind Band as they bring the joy of music to a range of events both in and out of school over the next academic year. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the Musical Directors of the Choir and Wind Band – Mr McGuinness and Mr Wolfendale – for their dedication to the development of these vital new additions to the Rydal Penrhos family. Their passion for music has brought happiness to many and reminded us just how music can connect us to the wider world.
