Drama pupils praised for efforts during devised pieces
December 30, 2020

Rydal Penrhos pupils received praise for their efforts during devised pieces before the end of the autumn term.

The performing arts are at the very heart of Rydal Penrhos. The school prides itself on allowing each pupil to express themselves on stage should they choose to, with the Dramatic Society productions such as Annie the Musical, Les Miserables, and To Kill a Mockingbird just a few of the notable highlights in recent years.

Despite the ongoing impact of COVID-19 restrictions in schools across the country, Rydal Penrhos has strived to ensure that each pupil gets the most out of their education in and out of the classroom. This has enabled drama pupils to continue with their studies and rehearsals ahead of a critical stage of their development.

Over the last few weeks, Year 13, 11 and 10 drama pupils have showcased their devised performances following a hugely successful period of preparation under the guidance and support of teaching staff.

These performances were forced to take place in a private gathering rather than the usual format of inviting members of the Rydal Penrhos community to attend. However, every pupil performing remained fully focused on the task in hand and came away from their respective pieces with a tremendous amount of credit.

Rachel Jones, who is the Head of Drama at Rydal Penrhos, said: “All pupils have worked incredibly hard and this resulted in some outstanding pieces of theatre.”

This is yet another strong indicator of the fine work being done across Rydal Penrhos during an unprecedented period of change.

The school has strived to ensure that high educational standards are maintained despite the ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

The COVID-19 response team, together with teaching and support staff, have gone to extreme lengths to put every necessary precautions and safety measures in place so that Rydal Penrhos pupils young and old can continue getting the most out of their education – benefitting from the wealth of academic and extra-curricular opportunities on offer.
