Rydal Penrhos: Emily completes first 10k run
May 19, 2020

A determined Rydal Penrhos pupil managed to secure a significant running milestone recently.

Emily Stubbings, a Year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, set herself a challenge of getting her running endurance up to 10km level in-between her remote learning breaks during the coronavirus pandemic.

The hard-working individual has been training three mornings a week in pursuit of her goal, which Emily finally managed to achieve earlier this month.

Her first-ever 10km was completed in a very impressive 57 minutes and took place in the picturesque surroundings of Clocaenog forest.

The pupil had to navigate more than 350 feet of ascent and several very muddy tracks during the run, which was all off-road to further increase the level of difficulty.

The task fits in tremendously with Rydal Penrhos’ recent Health and Wellbeing faculty challenges, which were sent to pupils last week.

Nicky Head, physical education teacher at the school, said: “This was a fantastic effort from Emily and one that she can be enormously proud of.

“This hard work, dedication and commitment is something we are looking to relay to all our Rydal Penrhos pupils during such a difficult time relating to Covid-19.

“Hopefully this is a trend Emily can continue long into the future and we would like to congratulate her on reaching the milestone.”
