Rydal Penrhos Daily Notes – June 16
Day 60 from Rydal Penrhos school’s keyworker childcare provision – 29 pupils, 10 staff
Busy, busy busy all day today and excited children talking all about the return to school again; a step back towards normality and now only 10 days away for some.
However, the reality of our current times struck me quite forcefully when I listened carefully to snippets of the children’s conversations today.
A three-year-old told me proudly that they can say a very long word; thinking it would be one of the usual made-up variety I said, “ Go on then, tell me what it is”, the reply was swift and carefully pronounced, “co-ro-na-vi-rus”. “Excellent”, I replied rather flatly!
Two five-year-olds were sharing a reading book, “ I know why they can’t go on the plane”, “Why?” “because they’ve got coronavirus” “oh yes!”.
A 12-year-old was reading a story to some younger pupils, one wanted to sit on her knee as he was tired, “ Just stay in your own chair for now and I’ll show you the pictures” – true awareness, even in our keyworker bubble, of not getting too close.
It all seems such a shame, but if it gets this new generation to be aware of keeping their hands clean and understanding the dangers of pandemics then I guess it’s worth it…isn’t it?
