Rydal Penrhos: Mrs Davies’ vision for Prep School
August 24, 2020

“Rydal Penrhos wants to ensure that every pupil is safe, happy and thriving, that every single one of them counts. This is what attracted me to the school in 2019, although I already knew it was a great school. I attended it for my Sixth Form and loved every minute!”

Lucy’s career as a teacher has spanned thirty years and she has been a Headteacher for the past eight. After doing her A levels at Rydal School before the merger with Penrhos College she completed a degree in anthropology at Durham University and then went to work for IBM in London.

However, she felt that something was missing and eventually left London to complete her teaching qualifications at Exeter University. She has not looked back since.

Lucy is head of the Prep School which educates children all the way through from the age of two until 11 where they smoothly transition into Year 7 and seniors.

Having completed a second postgraduate qualification in dyslexia and literacy from the University of York and the UK National Professional Qualification for Headship she started carrying out inspection tasks at schools in Qatar and Dubai alongside leading 56 classes with 900 pupils and 75 staff.

In contrast, her next position was as Headteacher at the much smaller Firs Prep School in Chester where she led for five years until the summer of 2019 at which point she joined Rydal Penrhos. During this time she also completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with Chester University.

Mrs Davies, said: “I have always enjoyed teaching and leading learning. I am passionate about education and the benefits that it can bring to a child. My leadership style is collaborative, and I like to think I am organised, passionate and approachable. I like clear systems that work and that everyone understands. I like to simplify processes.

“I will always work to give the best education to every child. I am a good listener and seek to hear the views of staff, pupils and parents at every opportunity.

“Families are at the heart of every school and it is the families who will let me know what they want from the school. I am an experienced educator, but I still have lots to learn.”
