Head of Drama Rachel Jones lauded the cast and crew of Matilda the Musical Jr. ahead of the production’s long-awaited opening night at Rydal Penrhos.
Tonight marks another chapter in the rich and vibrant history of dramatic performance over the past 140 years at Rydal Penrhos. After weeks of exceptionally hard work from pupils and staff alike, the Dramatic Society production of Matilda the Musical Jr. finally takes place inside the picturesque Memorial Hall.
This is the school’s first major production since the jaw-dropping Les Misérables in 2019 due to COVID-19, which only adds to what is sure to be an incredible occasion for those in attendance.
It’s been a collective effort from the cast, tech team and other teaching staff to get to this point, with pupils giving their all during rehearsals to ensure things go off without a hitch during their big moments on stage.
The school values drama in its curricular and extra-curricular provision not only for its academic worth but because it enables pupils to explore their creativity, try something new, gain confidence and work closely in a team.
Mrs Rachel Jones, who is the Head of Drama at Rydal Penrhos, lauded the commitment from the entire production team ahead of their big opening night, with performances also taking place on Thursday and Friday.
She said: “The enthusiasm with which Mr Williams (Music), Mr Sherrington (Art), Mr Harmsworth and Mr Bonser (Design Technology) and our pupils have embraced this production is truly inspiring.
“The opportunity to perform reminds us how deeply live performances have been missed over the past 18 months. We are proud to see both longtime Rydal Penrhos pupils and new entrants to the school getting involved and thoroughly enjoying the process of bringing a script and sheet music to life, all the while making new friends and memories along the way.
“A big thank you to all of those involved both on stage and behind the scenes, Mr Lavin, Arthur Hind, Mrs Freeman, Mrs Richardson and Mrs Davies. And thanks to the parents who have been on duty dropping off and picking up their children.
“This production is a true reflection of our togetherness as a school community.”
Congratulations to the entire Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society. We cannot wait for the production which is going to be extraordinary!
