Rydal Penrhos is thrilled to confirm the appointments of Oscar and Ella as the new Head Boy/Girl team for Reception-Year 6.
One area where Rydal Penrhos truly excels is the ability to bring out the best in every pupil, inspiring leadership skills and other vital characteristics that stand them in good stead during their education and once they head into the working world.
This starts from a young age, with pupils getting involved in groups such as the School Council and Eco Committee, giving them a first-hand experience of what leading and making a difference actually entails.
Every year at Rydal Penrhos, those in Year 6 get the opportunity to become part of the Prep Pupil Leadership Team if they choose.
This involved written applications, an interview, staff consultation and a residential week away at the Arete Outdoor Centre in Llanrug where they could try new things and test their peer leadership skills in a challenging environment.
At the end of this process, Deputy Principal Mrs Davies and the staff faced some hard choices.
After some significant deliberation, Rydal Penrhos is delighted to confirm that Oscar and Ella will head up the team as Head Boy and Head Girl for the 2021/22 academic year.
Both pupils have made a lasting impact on their peers and the school since arriving, so they are sure to bring plenty of enthusiasm and expertise to their respective roles.
Oscar is a strong academic who is also thriving in areas such as music and sport, writing in his application that it would be “an honour” to become Head Boy.
He said: “It would be an honour to be Head Boy and to inspire all of the younger years to be the best they can be and have fun at school.
“I believe I would be a good Head Boy because I am confident and I strive to be a role model through my academics, my sport and my sense of humour.”
Ella is a pupil that embodies what a Rydal Penrhos education should be. Her willingness to try every opportunity offered by the school’s teaching staff has resulted in some outstanding progress both in and out of a classroom environment.
Speaking about the role in her application, Ella said: “I think I am a suitable person for this position of responsibility because I’m trustworthy, sensible and competent.
“I enjoy all sports including hockey, netball and cross-country and I would be willing to help inexperienced players have fun and improve!
“I’d hope that younger pupils can look up to me throughout Year 6 and I’ll do my best to represent the school.”
We would like to congratulate both Oscar and Ella on securing their roles and wish them every success over the next few months.
