Pre-School children at Rydal Penrhos embraced and enhanced their love of reading during a special visit to Colwyn Bay library.
Trips and special visitors play an important part in a child’s early education at Rydal Penrhos Pre-School. These form just a small part of our ongoing work and enhance knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
Pre-School children usually have a trip or visitor associated with their current topic. They will also explore the local area when they go shopping, visit landmarks or go on seasonal walks.
Another example of this came during a recent trip to Colwyn Bay library, which was extremely well received and the children are already looking forward to visiting the vital facility more during the Lent Term.
Under the supervision of Pre-School staff, children participated in a song and story-time event. They also had the opportunity to browse the books on offer and embrace their love of reading throughout.
The visit was such a hit that Rydal Penrhos Pre-School is now a fully-fledged member of the library and plans to make regular visits as part of their new curriculum, which is based on following children’s interests and making connections within the community.
Pre-Schoolers have been busy utilising the wide range of areas across the Colwyn Bay and Conwy regions since the start of the academic year. This includes sessions with residents at Merton Place Residential & Nursing Home and the eagerly-anticipated excursions to the nearby Welsh Mountain Zoo.
Letitia Spencer, who is the Pre-School department manager at Rydal Penrhos, said: “We will be building on this and offering more opportunities to teach the children knowledge and understanding of the world through real-life experiences.”
