Join us this Saturday 24 June 2023 for Rydal Penrhos’ highly anticipated Speech Day celebrations.
The significance of tradition is deeply rooted in our school’s culture, which dates back to the very first years of Rydal Mount School and Penrhos College. Among the many lasting traditions at Rydal Penrhos, Speech Day might perhaps be the most cherished. This annual celebratory event is a highlight on the school calendar, signalling the beginning of the end for the academic year.
Over the years, countless parents and pupils have gathered on this momentous occasion to commemorate the successes of Rydal Penrhos pupils and bid farewell to the departing class of Upper Sixth pupils. This year will be no exception, with a fantastic morning planned that will demonstrate the best of Rydal Penrhos.
As the name implies, Speech Day will feature a series of insightful addresses from various members of our school community, including the Chair of Governors and Executive Principal. Our departing Head Boy and Head Girl, James Copeland and Ester Ball-Iversen, will fulfil perhaps the most famous and memorable part of their brief as they speak about their time at Rydal Penrhos.
We are honoured to welcome Mr John Wilford as our guest speaker. An alumnus and former Governor of Rydal Penrhos, Mr Wilford has made significant contributions to the corporate world, working alongside notable FTSE 100 companies and founding his own company working with CFOs to enhance their businesses. In 2010, he joined Lloyd’s Register to help navigate the challenges of technology, sustainability, and digitalization. His experiences will prove useful and fascinating listening for our Senior pupils.
Of course, it would not be a proper Speech Day without the presentation of prizes. Several cups, trophies and awards will be handed to their latest recipients, including subject-specific accolades for pupils in Years 11 to 13. Notably, the prestigious and much-coveted Yeung Bowl House Cup will be presented, with Morgan, Osborn, Wesley, and Payne all hoping to win the honour this time around.
We eagerly anticipate this showcase event and, with the Leavers’ Ball taking place later in the evening, expect Saturday to be a wonderful day of celebration and togetherness for our Rydal Penrhos community.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday in the Memorial Hall at 10:00!
