Seven days from our latest annual Sports Day, Rydal Penrhos looks forward to this standout event in the school calendar. 

At Rydal Penrhos, certain events always bring us together as a community and highlight what makes life at the school so special. Thankfully, Trinity Term is full of these moments, with a prime example just a week away.

Next Friday (24 May 2024), our whole school will join together for Sports Day, promising to be a splendid occasion for pupils, parents, carers, teachers, staff, and friends of the school. Once again, we gather to share in the joy of sports, made even more enjoyable by the summer weather!

The recent turn in the weather has been crucial in enabling us to prepare for this important event. Following unprecedented rain, a spell of drier weather has allowed our hardworking Grounds Team to bring New Field to its pristine best. Thank you to everyone involved in this effort, which required many hundreds of hours and impressive machinery!

When the school community gathers next Friday, it will be an occasion of celebration, togetherness, and fierce inter-house rivalry. The house system at Rydal Penrhos brings real vibrancy to school life, with pupils competing in a range of events throughout the year to secure the House Cup. Sports Day is perhaps the single most important event in this regard, so expect our pupils to give it their all!

From the adrenaline-pumping speed of the 100m sprint to the intense focus of the egg-and-spoon race, each event will present its own challenge as Snowdon and Osborn look to defend their crown. Supporting them will be our parents, carers, and friends of the school, who always elevate events like these with their enthusiasm and spirit.

This year’s Sports Day also marks the return of Friends of Rydal Penrhos (FORPS) to the spotlight for the first time since its revival earlier this academic year. From FORPS’ very own refreshments gazebo, spectators can indulge in a delightful array of treats and beverages throughout the day.
