Rydal Penrhos: Year 11 react to outstanding GCSE results
August 21, 2020

Some of Rydal Penrhos’ Year 11 group have been reflecting on their record-breaking set of GCSE results.

The Year 11 group worked exceptionally hard this year with the guidance and support of Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated staff and this has seen them secure the school’s best-ever percentages at GCSE level.

49.2% of all grades awarded were A*, which is a significant rise of 33.2% from the previous year. 66.7% of grades fell into the A*-A category, a rise of 30.6% and if we look at A* – B 87.11% of all grades fell into this category. The pass rate overall was 100%.

The support I have received from teaching staff throughout this process has been incredible. They have always been on hand to answer any questions I might have had. And I was not hesitant approaching them, because of the confidence that they have instilled in me.

The enrichment opportunities available also provided me with some brilliant experiences. I expect the Sixth Form to be rewarding and hard work, but I am really excited about the next step.

I am extremely pleased with my GCSE results. The last few months have been difficult, but the online learning provided by teachers has been very beneficial.

Sixth Form is going to be a lot of hard work, but it will also allow me to focus on specialist subjects that I plan to pursue at university.

“I was hoping for good results but the ones I gained were better than I expected. Having such thoughtful teachers enabled me to learn new things that you don’t necessarily get from a textbook.

“Sixth Form is going to be a lot different. But I am looking forward to advancing subjects that really interest me and taking advantage of the leadership opportunities on offer.”

  • Studying History, English Literature, Biology and Psychology at A Level.

“I am absolutely delighted with my results. I am interested in taking a possible career path relating to Archaeology or something of that nature, but I am undecided as yet.

“The online support I received over the last few months was so insightful. The teachers were always on hand to answer any queries through email. And the practical aspect of it was another thing that really stood out. This helped me enormously during Music sessions.

“Sixth Form is going to be a different atmosphere and much more responsibility. But it is a challenge I am looking forward to.”

I am thrilled with the results I received and they were much better than I was expecting. I think the entire staff at Rydal Penrhos have been thorough not only during the lockdown but throughout the two years of my GCSE modules.

Focusing more time on the subjects that inspire me is something I am looking forward to the most in Sixth Form. And having a bigger role to play across the school is something else that excites me.
