Rydal Penrhos is thrilled to announce a twelve-month partnership with Edukid, marking a significant step in the school’s commitment to global citizenship and development.
Serving as a spiritual successor to the school’s long-time engagement in Uganda, Rydal Penrhos’ new partnership with Edukid not only offers our pupils an extraordinary opportunity to visit Peru in twelve months’ time, but also provides them with a chance to contribute to an ongoing development project and make a positive impact on the world.
The primary aim of Edukid is to eliminate the barriers to education faced by children in various parts of the world. As part of Rydal Penrhos’ new partnership with Edukid, Rydal Penrhos pupils will have the opportunity to participate in an international trip to Peru in October 2024, during the half-term break.
This will not only be an opportunity for our pupils to see the thriving capital city of Lima and explore the ancient and beautiful landscapes of South America; the trip will also allow our pupils to make a meaningful contribution to the communities they encounter. It is an experience that promises to be both educational and personally enriching.
The trip will directly benefit pupils completing The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, a popular initiative at our school. Not only will the trip help pupils to complete criteria of the Award, but in a broader sense the skills, experiences, and values gained through working with Edukid will equip our children and young people with new confidence and perspective.
In the twelve months leading up to the trip, the Rydal Penrhos community will unite to support Edukid’s mission, with a particular focus on Peru. Our pupils will actively engage in fundraising efforts, both to support Edukid’s work and to raise funds for our trip. Rydal Penrhos will keep parents, carers and the school community updated on the progress of these fundraising events through its website and social platforms. Please be sure to mark your calendars for our annual walkathon in July 2024, which will be dedicated to supporting Edukid.
We would like to thank Edukid, who we look forward to working with. For our pupils and families, we encourage you to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Pupils currently in Year 10 and above can register by Tuesday 7 November 2023 and be a part of the Peru trip. And for those pupils too young to travel currently, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved in supporting Edukid’s valuable work.
