Drama Club Fun is Latest Demonstration of Rydal Penrhos’ Rich Extra-Curricular Programme
April 6, 2023

Some vibrant and enthusiastic recreations of Prep pupils’ favourite films proved the latest illustration of Rydal Penrhos’ rewarding extra-curricular programme.

Rydal Penrhos is a school that values and nurtures its pupils’ interests and passions, both in and outside the classroom. While there are essential pieces of knowledge that pupils must learn during their time with us in order to thrive at GCSE and A-Level and achieve the best exam results, we place an important emphasis on helping pupils engage in the process of learning about themselves as individuals, including their strengths, interests and weaknesses.

For this reason, we aim to provide an expansive choice of extra-curricular clubs and activities that allows our pupils to try new things and push themselves out of their comfort zone, all the while having great fun doing so.

This was certainly the case when our Key Stage 2 Drama Club recently participated in an imaginative film-based activity. As part of the contest, each group had to recreate a scene from their favourite film with exactitude, demonstrating great teamwork, script-writing, and costume-making skills in the process. Once the teams had prepared their routines, their performances were staged as part of the Celebration Assembly in the Prep Hall on the morning of Friday 31 March 2023.

We will leave parents to decide which films their children chose, based on the wonderful photos below!

This activity rounds off a fun and fulfilling term for the Drama Club, which is just one of the many amazing extra-curricular clubs on offer at Rydal Penrhos. After Easter, when Prep pupils return for Trinity Term, they will have access to 38 clubs, including Pre-School Ballet, Choir, Mindful Colouring, Chess, Everyone’s a Writer, Skateboarding, Yoga, Construction, Skiing, Gardening, and Quiz Club. There will even be an opportunity for pupils to make the most of the summer weather and play some Kwik Cricket!

In the Senior section, pupils have 70 extra-curricular options to select from for their five 15:30 to 16:30 extra-curricular sessions across the week. This time offers a vital counterpoint to the six curriculum lessons that take place earlier in the day, allowing pupils to get involved in something altogether different before they head home for the day.

The choice of clubs is considerable, with options including Model United Nations, Combined Cadet Force, Coding for Beginners, Fitness Suite Sessions, Anime Club, Drama Production Rehearsals, Poetry Writing and the cult favourite Dissection Club!

Additionally, there are a number of academic clinics, and sporting options, including Sailing, Tennis, Football, and Fives. These clubs not only help to develop skills and interests outside of the classroom, but also help to foster a sense of community and belonging within school.

With such an exciting line-up of clubs and activities to look forward to next term, we hope that our extracurricular programme continues to provide opportunities for pupils to explore their passions, develop new skills, and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive and nurturing environment.
