Rydal Penrhos once again showed its commitment to charity and community by raising an impressive £605 for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on Friday 17 March 2023.
Charity days are a key part of the Rydal Penrhos calendar. They not only serve as opportunities to support important causes, but also tend to provide a lot of fun and enjoyment as a variety of fundraising activities play out. This proved to be once again the case last week as the school celebrated Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.
Comic Relief is a UK-based charity that aims to bring about positive change and social justice in the UK and around the world. Since its inception in 1985, Comic Relief has raised over £1.3 billion, and the funds raised have helped to support a wide range of causes, including poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse, and mental health.
As a registered charity itself, Rydal Penrhos places a primary focus on supporting community and charity initiatives. The school encourages pupils to develop a sense of social responsibility and to use their talents and abilities to make a positive difference in the world. A prime example of this was Rydal Penrhos’ donation scheme in support of those displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Similar togetherness in support of a common goal was seen as the whole Rydal Penrhos community got involved in fundraising efforts for Red Nose Day. Pupils in the Prep and Pre-School had a non-uniform day, as decided by School Council. Pupils were encouraged to wear a red nose and bring in a suggested donation of £2. Many staff, including Deputy Principal Mrs Davies, donned red noses to support the event.
It proved to be a great day all round with lots going on in the Prep. The jollity of the day even spilled over into Rydal Penrhos’ Swimming Pool, with Reception pupils thoroughly enjoying the treat of having a five-minute fun swim following their weekly lesson.
The Senior campus also saw a non-uniform day, with pupils dressed in a bright variety of red outfits. The suggested donation was again £2, although pupils also raised money by taking part in several fun activities during break and lunchtime, all led by the Charity Committee. This was the latest success story for the thriving pupil-led committee, headed by Year 13 pupil Ellise Wallace and her deputy, Luisa Berto.
The success of this fundraising effort is a testament to the charitable spirit of the Rydal Penrhos community. It shows that, despite the challenges faced by the modern world, the school and its pupils are committed to making a positive global impact.
