Year 5 pupils at Rydal Penrhos got a chance to learn about safety in a very novel way as they took a trip to DangerPoint, an award winning interactive visitor centre.

At Rydal Penrhos, we believe that education goes beyond academic learning, and that providing our pupils with a well-rounded education includes teaching them essential life skills. We strive to bring classroom topics to life by utilizing the historical landmarks and educational attractions located right on our doorstep, giving our pupils hands-on experiences that they will remember for years to come.

Recently, our Year 5 pupils had the opportunity to visit DangerPoint North Wales, an educational attraction in Holywell where pupils can learn about real-life dangers that they may encounter in their lives. Accompanied by their form tutor, Mrs Clare Chamberlain, the pupils worked with the DangerPoint Rangers to tackle different scenarios and learn how to prevent dangers and react to them.

The pupils started their visit by completing a quiz, and throughout the day they filled out another series of questions to test their knowledge. Pupils worked their way through the various stations around the facility, including a mock-up store and traffic light crossing. It was impressive to see the attentiveness and engagement of our pupils throughout the visit, and their quiz scores at the end of the day were a testament to their dedication and hard work.

The Year 5 visit to DangerPoint was the latest example of Rydal Penrhos helping its children and young people develop the skills they need to succeed in life, including situational awareness and proportionate risk taking. We are proud of our Year 5 pupils for their enthusiasm on the day and for demonstrating such a sensible and measured approach to danger.
