A hard-working year group at Rydal Penrhos boosted their learning at the most visited tourist attraction in the region.

The Year 11 contingent travelled to Chester Zoo for a series of Biology, Business and Geography workshops on Tuesday, September 24, which saw the pupils spend considerable time at the site discussing various important topics that will boost their efforts within a classroom setting.

This ranged from marketing, conservation and the day-to-day efforts to enhance number within the wild thanks to various projects implemented by zoo staff to benefit the wildlife and in particular endangered animals.

The pupils also got the chance to take part in a series of thought-provoking activities on the subjects discussed, and they were rewarded for their efforts with some free time to view the animals for themselves once the workshop concluded.

A Chester Zoo representative was highly complimentary of the pupils’ conduct throughout their visit, saying: “I’d like to give a special thank you to your students for being so attentive throughout their three workshops with us – we do appreciate this, as having 21,000 animals just outside the door can be a potential distraction for anyone.”

This is one of many trips to prominent areas throughout the region put on by dedicated staff during the academic year, which gives each pupil a broader knowledge of their chosen subject they might not necessarily obtain in a classroom environment.
