Calling All Artists: Rydal Penrhos Launches Poster Contest for Upcoming Drama Production
May 4, 2023

Rydal Penrhos is offering Senior pupils a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic skills as part of a poster contest for the upcoming drama production.

Rydal Penrhos is proud of its rich tradition of drama and performance, which we look forward to continuing with our upcoming production of ‘Henry the Tudor Dude’, which will run for three days from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 June and include pupils from Years 7 to 10.

‘Henry the Tudor Dude’ is a fun, energetic and informative play by Kjartan Poskitt that depicts the life of King Henry VIII – England’s most outrageous monarch – in a rock-and-roll musical extravaganza.

Battles with France, the reformation of the church, umpteen executions and the tale of six wives are all brought to the stage by the Tudor News team, promising a riotous and thoroughly entertaining show.

As we look forward to the production, pupils been given the chance to make their mark and demonstrate their artistic abilities by participating in a fun poster competition to decide the appearance of the play’s promotional materials.

The contest challenges pupils to submit a full-colour image with no writing, either hand-drawn or computer-generated, of A4 size. Contestants should submit their designs to Miss Earle by Saturday 20 May. The winning entry will be chosen by the Art Department and Marketing Team.

Rydal Penrhos is excited to see the imaginative ideas that pupils will bring to the competition. There is a growing buzz and sense of anticipation around school ahead of what will be an exciting theatrical showcase. Casting is now complete and rehearsals are well underway, with pupils quickly learning the musical numbers at the heart of the show.

On the morning of Friday 28 April 2023, Year 7 gathered to practice the main anthem of their new production; namely, ‘The Body Rock’. Later, on Thursday 4 May, Year 7 brought song and dance to the Carnegie Room as they practiced a dance number they have learned under the tutelage of Miss Earle and Mrs Freeman.

Pupils are learning more and more with every practice session, so we look forward to providing parents further behind-the-scenes insights as rehearsals continue. Make sure to mark Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 June in your calendars to not miss out on one of the most exciting theatrical events of the year!
