Rydal Penrhos has stepped up its efforts to make PPE for NHS staff and other keyworker facilities across the region.

The school’s Design Technology teacher Mark Harmsworth, together with technician James Bonser and Sixth Form pupil Jamie Lavery, have been busy making protective masks throughout the coronavirus school closure, with a large number already donated to facilities across the region.

They now have now fewer than six 3D printers to work with thanks to an incredible response from the Rydal Penrhos community, which has led production to increase significantly.

The trio are now producing 100 masks a day to assist in the fight against COVID-19.

A crowdfunding campaign set-up by the school has raised thousands to date, which is going to add to the financial commitment made by Rydal Penrhos regarding the project.

The school is now looking for the relevant materials in order to make the most out of the resources acquired.

Mr Bonser, said: “The reason we chose the model of face shield was that Prusa, the printer manufacturer, had designed and tested it with the Czech National Health Service who approved it.

“We would like to hear from anyone who could help with the supply of .5mm acetate, PETG printer filament, and quick cure resin. Any donation small or large would help.”
