Rydal Penrhos – The Promise in Action: Significant and Ongoing Investment in School Buildings and Equipment
March 20, 2024

Rydal Penrhos has set out its Promise; six core tenets that define the minimum standards that children, parents, carers, and families can rely on us to deliver, year-after-year. In this series of articles, we unpack each part of The Rydal Penrhos Promise, and explain what it means for the young people in our care.

2. Significant and Ongoing Investment in School Buildings and Equipment.

Progress is perpetual. In a world where change is the only constant, standing still is akin to moving backward. That is why, at Rydal Penrhos, we prioritise continuous improvement and adaptation to the latest best practices. Investment is a crucial part of this, not only financially but also in terms of time, care, and attention.

At Rydal Penrhos, we consistently make this commitment in recognition of the trust parents and carers place in us. Choosing an independent school for your child is a significant investment in their unique potential. It is only fitting that we reciprocate by investing in our ability to provide the best start in life for your child.

The year 2024 marks the realisation of Rydal Penrhos’ most significant site developments since the millennium. The relocation of our Prep and Pre-School to Old House will bring transformative enhancements to the site over the next six months, from new classrooms and corridors to a redesigned Prep and Pre-School entrance on Lansdowne Road.

The process of single siting will also unlock the full potential of past developments. Once based in Old House, our youngest learners will have immediate access to existing facilities, including state-of-the-art science labs and creative arts studios. Every day, Pre-School and Prep pupils will, like their Senior counterparts, thrive in an environment unrivalled in North Wales.

While this is a particularly momentous time for the school, Rydal Penrhos’ 140-year history is characterised by sustained strategic investment. Even amid the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, resources have always been channelled into improvements that directly enrich the lives of our pupils.

In recent years alone, there have been several examples. The restoration of the Osborn Hall reflected the changing needs of our pupils in a modern educational environment. Now, this versatile venue hosts a range of educational events, from examinations to parents’ evenings.

Our cherished Swimming Pool has undergone significant modernisation, while the expansion of the Senior School Fitness Suite has broadened the horizons of aspiring athletes and teams. These improvements have yielded dividends, with our swim squad thriving and hockey teams competing in the national finals.

As part of our commitment to the digital age, the school has provided every pupil from Reception to Year 13 with their own iPad, at no extra cost. This initiative revolutionised our educational approach, granting access to cutting-edge digital tools and enabling teachers to provide instantaneous feedback.

By positioning itself at the cutting-edge of digital practices, Rydal Penrhos can also invest in software solutions that improve the experiences of pupils and parents. A very recent example is the introduction of Tootoot, an innovative pupil voice app yielding tangible improvements to our already excellent record of safeguarding and pupil welfare.

As we move towards single siting, we eagerly anticipate the benefits of this investment, further delivering on our Promise and providing an environment that is increasingly calibrated to the success and flourishing our our pupils.

With more exciting developments planned for the future, it has never been a better time to be a part of the Rydal Penrhos community.
