January 15, 2020

It promises to be a momentous occasion for Rydal Penrhos’ Combined Cadet Force next week.

The fledgling group have been working incredibly hard since the start of the academic year, and they will formally receive their Berets during a special ceremony at the school on Thursday, January 23.

The Berets will be the first in the United Kingdom to wear 1st Queens Dragoon Guards badges, otherwise known as the Welsh Calvary, who became Rydal Penrhos CCF’s sponsor regiment going forward.

Group leaders Alun Brown and Phil Hilton will lead the ceremony, with other school dignitaries scheduled to make an appearance and lend their support.

Rydal Penrhos’ CCF is still in its infancy but has generated a significant amount of interest from pupils across a variety of different age groups, something that has further enhanced the school’s vast enrichment programme.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Our Combined Cadet Force initiative really has thrived in recent weeks, with pupils learning various early elements of the group and shown a tremendous dedication to the programme.

“This is matched by the unrivalled dedication of staff members Phil Hilton and Alun Brown, who have worked tirelessly to maximise opportunities and experiences for those taking part.

“The Beret presentation is another considerable milestone for them all and one they are thoroughly deserving of.”
