Rydal Penrhos Daily Notes – June 17

Day 61 from Rydal Penrhos school’s keyworker childcare provision – 20 pupils, 9 staff

Hands up if you’ve ever played with a pegboard like the one in the photo!

Yes, I think most people now have a hand in the air.

There are some pieces of learning apparatus that just never go out of fashion and hold an endless fascination for children, and a pegboard is one of them.

What is it about a pegboard though?

They can be slightly dodgy for young children…how old does a child have to be before you are sure that they won’t stick a peg up their nose, put one in their ear, give one to the dog or eat one?

Well, judging from today’s activity you are safe with a three-year-old!

They loved carefully assembling the pegs into their own creation and didn’t realise we were assessing colour and number knowledge with instructions such as , “can you make a hat with three blue pegs?”

“What colour are the dog’s ears?…It isn’t a dog….sorry, I know that, I meant the cat….oh, it’s a crocodile, of course it is, well what colour are its ears?… sorry, eyes!!!”

Yes, it’s always a fun learning experience with a peg board…who knew a crocodile had yellow eyes!!?
