Rydal Penrhos Society: Golfers Enjoy Successful Pochin Cup 2023
October 24, 2023

Rydal Penrhos is delighted to share with the success of the latest Golf event of its alumni association, the Rydal Penrhos Society.

Golf enthusiasts from our alumni community could not have asked for a more perfect day as the Rydal Penrhos Society recently gathered for the highly anticipated Pochin Cup at Sandiway Golf Club. With clear skies and a course in impeccable condition, it was a day of both fierce competition and camaraderie.

Seventeen dedicated golf enthusiasts teed off at what is regarded as one of the best inland courses in the north of England. Players faced the challenge of the 18-hole course, which is set in mixed heath and woodland and has been developed from the original course designed by Ted Ray, the first Ryder Cup captain.

Society Golf Secretary Richard Watson secured the top spot with an impressive 35 points, closely followed by Lee Fosbrook with 34 points. John Millington’s commendable performance earned him the third place with 32 points. Additionally, Richard Wolfendale showcased his precision by winning the “Nearest the Pin” contest on the 18th hole.

The event was capped off by an excellent dinner following the close of play. Thank you to John Millington for the exceptional job he did in coordinating this year’s competition. His efforts ensured that the day went off without a hitch, allowing everyone enjoy their time on the course to the fullest.

As one golf event concludes, another exciting one beckons on the horizon. The Silcock Salver, the next Rydal Penrhos Society golfing affair, is scheduled to take place in April at the Conwy Golf Club. Mark your calendars for Friday 19 April 2024, for another memorable day of golf, followed by a delightful fish and chips meal in the clubhouse. Stay tuned for more details as the event approaches.

The Pochin Cup at Sandiway Golf Club was a resounding success, and we look forward to the Silcock Salver with equal anticipation. It is events like these that demonstrate the unique power of Rydal Penrhos Society sports!
