Looking Ahead to a New Term: What’s on at Rydal Penrhos
April 16, 2023

Ahead of a new school term at Rydal Penrhos, we preview six key events in the run-up to May half-term.

After a well-earned rest, teachers and staff at Rydal Penrhos are looking forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Wednesday 19 April. The break was a chance to recharge and reflect on a fantastic Lent Term, which saw our pupils achieve success in a range of areas. Three national hockey titles, Inter-House and LAMDA Drama competitions, and the first edition of the school’s new ‘Lunch With…’ initiative were just some of the highlights, to name a few.

Although every day at Rydal Penrhos is a true joy and delight, there is little doubt that the final term of the academic year has a special feeling about it, with every day carrying a special energy and impetus. As we look forward to getting started with Trinity Term, we can’t wait to see what our pupils will achieve and what exciting opportunities await them.

To reflect the widely-felt sense of anticipation ahead of the new term, we have selected six events to preview from the next six weeks to May half-term:

Venue Cymru Wedding Fayre

Rydal Penrhos is quickly making a name for itself as one of the best venues to tie the knot in North Wales. Our Commercial team will visit Venue Cymru on Sunday 23 April to take part in North Wales’ largest wedding fayre. Recently, grant of approval was secured for civil ceremonies to take place in three new venues – the Osborn Hall, the Memorial Hall and the Hovey Room. Rydal Penrhos’ picturesque location and stunning facilities make it the perfect place to celebrate the start of a lifetime of happiness.

Senior Colour Awards

Pupils’ efforts outside the classroom will be recognised as prizes are awarded to those who have excelled on the sporting field, on the stage or in an extra-curricular club. This can’t-miss event, scheduled for Thursday 27 April, is always a very happy and proud day for pupils and parents. The Senior Colour Awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of our pupils, and highlight the values of commitment, teamwork, and perseverance that are at the core of a Rydal Penrhos education.

Industry and Enterprise Day

On Friday 28 April, a number of leading figures from local businesses and public services will visit the school to share their wisdom with pupils. From national giants to local independent businesses, a wide cross-section of different career paths will be on show. The Industry and Enterprise Day is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from experienced professionals and gain an insight into the world of work. It is a chance to explore different career paths, discover new passions, and broaden horizons.

Bodnant Gardens Trip

Our youngest pupils in the Pre-School will see one of North Wales’ most outstanding attractions as they visit Bodnant Gardens on Tuesday 2 May. Bodnant Gardens is a beautiful National Trust property featuring stunning floral displays, rare plants, and beautiful scenery. This visit fits with our wider focus on connecting pupils to their outdoor environments – the forefront example of this being the Forest School. At Rydal Penrhos, we believe that time spent outside in nature is essential for the wellbeing and development of young minds.

Bronze DofE Practice Weekend

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a programme that encourages young people to develop skills, take on challenges, and grow as individuals. Year 9 pupils will take part in a practice weekend for the Expedition component of the DofE Bronze Award on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May. This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to build resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills in a challenging outdoor environment.

Sports Day

Now rescheduled for Friday 26 May, this highlight of the school year will see parents and pupils join together to celebrate not just our talented athletes but the prevailing spirit of togetherness and participation across the school. This is always a fun and energetic day, filled with excitement and healthy competition. And with any luck, the good weather will add an extra touch of enjoyment to the festivities!

From the Wedding Fayre to Sports Day, we have a jam-packed term of events and activities ahead of us. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our pupils, to learn from experts in various fields, and to enjoy each other’s company in a range of settings. We can’t wait to get started, and we hope that you’re looking forward to it too.

See you all on Wednesday bright and early!
