A Pre-Prep year group at Rydal Penrhos got creative as part of their latest outdoor learning session surrounding an ongoing topic.

The Year 2 contingent at the Prep School spent a recent morning at Rydal Penrhos’ impressive Forest School site prior to the half term break, which once again centred on the Celtic era.

Under the guidance and support of dedicated staff at the school, the group took part in a series of testing activities designed to boost various skills outside of a classroom environment.

The main feature of this was creating dyes similar to what would have been produced during the Celtic era, before enjoying some free time for supervised play around the outstanding facility.

Assistant head Catherine Hughes, said: “Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their vast topic on the Celts, and the exceptional programme put on by our teaching staff has really captured their imagination throughout.”

The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.

The Forest School programme originated in Scandinavia and is underpinned by thorough research into the learning behaviour of children at an early age and how best to develop this.

Rydal Penrhos Forest School focuses on providing a safe, outdoor learning experience where children and young people are encouraged to explore, discover, take suitable risks and learn in a secure area of woodland.
