A Preparatory School year group used their latest outdoor learning session to boost a classroom topic.

The Year 3 contingent at Rydal Penrhos have been working hard on their current Literacy module based on ‘Folktales’, which formed the prominent focus of a special Forest School morning.

During the session, the pupils used the story of ‘The Tiger Child’ to practice vocabulary, such as prepositions, by hiding animal characters from the story ‘under’ or ‘inside’ different places throughout the Forest School for others to find.

This was followed by the group sitting around the campfire to hear Forest School programme co-ordinator Jude Pyves read ‘The Tiger Child’, before working in groups to their own version of the story, replacing the character of the tiger with a British woodland animal.

Prep School Head Lucy Davies, said: “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful outdoor setting for our children to thrive and enhance their classroom studies considerably in a safe and challenging environment.

“This was particularly evident during the recent Year 3 Forest School session, which once again captured the imagination of each pupil involved and allowed them to delve deeper and more hands-on into the Tiger Child story.”

Rydal Penrhos Forest School focuses on providing a safe, outdoor learning experience where children and young people are encouraged to explore, discover, take suitable risks and learn in a secure area of woodland.
