St David’s Hospice is Rydal Penrhos’ Charity of the Year for 2025/26.
At Rydal Penrhos, charity and philanthropy are at the heart of school life.
As a school in the Methodist tradition, we continue to be guided by John Wesley’s call to “do all the good you can,” a principle that shapes how we teach, serve and engage with our community.
Rydal Penrhos is itself a registered charity, advancing the education and learning of children and young people. Alongside this core purpose, we are committed to supporting other charities and non-profit organisations—locally, nationally and internationally—whenever we can.
For 2025/26, we are focusing our efforts on St David’s Hospice, a longstanding and much-loved North Wales charity.
For over 25 years, St David’s Hospice has provided specialist, compassionate palliative and end-of-life care, free at the point of need.
Its teams care not only for patients, but also for families and carers through services such as respite, counselling and bereavement support.
For many across North Wales—including families within the Rydal Penrhos community—the hospice has been a source of dignity, comfort and hope at moments of real vulnerability. Indeed, our connection to St David’s Hospice is stronger than ever, following the sensitive support they extended to a much-loved colleague over the summer.
Rydal Penrhos’ backing will run across the academic year and will culminate in our Whole School Walkathon in July 2026, one of a number of pupil- and community-led activities designed to raise both funds and awareness.
Gareth Jones, CEO of St David’s Hospice, said:
“We are delighted to have been chosen as Rydal Penrhos School’s Charity of the Year for 2025/26.
“This partnership will be instrumental in raising vital funds and awareness for our services. The support received is essential for us to continue providing specialist palliative care for patients and their loved ones when they need it most. We look forward to working with the school community over the coming year to make a meaningful difference.”
Maria McLean, Rydal Penrhos Admissions and Marketing Manager, commented:
“So many of us already know the difference St David’s Hospice makes to neighbours, friends and, in some cases, their own families. Linking our pupils’ energy and leadership with the hospice’s life-changing work gives service real purpose. We look forward to championing the charity thoughtfully throughout 2025/26.”
We are grateful for the opportunity to support a charity held in such affection across North Wales. As the year unfolds, we look forward to sharing the stories, totals and moments of generosity that will, we hope, make a meaningful contribution to St David’s Hospice.
