Throughout April, Rydal Penrhos is proudly recognising Month of the Military Child, celebrating service children and reaffirming the school’s enduring commitment to Armed Forces families.
At Rydal Penrhos, education is rooted in character as much as achievement.
Ours is a school shaped by service, compassion and community, where young people are encouraged to grow in confidence, resilience and purpose. Those values make it especially fitting that, this April, we are marking the Month of the Military Child—a significant opportunity to recognise the unique experiences, contributions and quiet strengths of children from Armed Forces families.
Across the UK, schools, charities and military organisations mark the month with assemblies, creative projects, storytelling, competitions and awareness activities designed to ensure service children feel seen, valued and understood. In Wales, the month is also championed through SSCE Cymru, helping schools celebrate service children while strengthening awareness, belonging and pastoral support.
In support of this important occasion, Rydal Penrhos has adopted a special purple version of the school crest throughout April, with the colour symbolising all branches of the Armed Forces and serving as a visible sign of solidarity with military children.

Rydal Penrhos has long been the first choice for service families in North Wales; the result of a whole school culture of support for service families. We have a firm commitment to understanding the distinct pressures and opportunities that come with service life, and ensuring our provision is ready to meet them.
That commitment is underpinned by close links with Armed Forces communities, partnership work with SSCE Cymru, the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, and national recognition through the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.
The Month of the Military Child provides a valuable moment to celebrate the wider ethos that continues to define Rydal Penrhos: leadership, care for others, self-discipline and a readiness to serve beyond oneself. These qualities can be seen across school life and are deeply connected to the support offered to military children, ensuring they feel recognised, understood and empowered to flourish.
A series of activities and celebrations will take place across the school during April. We look forward to sharing them with you on our social media platforms as the month progresses and we approach Purple Up Day – a highlight event of the month – on Friday 24th April.
