Rydal Penrhos: Tallulah Batley’s incredible journey
August 18, 2020

Tallulah Batley’s time at Rydal Penrhos was full of outstanding accomplishments, and she will now head off on the next stage of her journey at one of the country’s finest higher education establishments.

The departing Sixth Former joined the Rydal Penrhos community as a Year 7 pupil, and her passion for art was something that stood out considerably from the first day to last.

This is something that became prevalent throughout Tallulah’s time at the school, and it resulted in some exceptional paintings and sculptures that are taking pride of place both within the art studio and throughout the senior site.

Her A* grade at A Level was a further reflection of this, and Tallulah will now move on to the prestigious University of Edinburgh, where she will study Fine Art at degree level.

It was clear from the outset that Tallulah was keen to take advantage of the wide range of opportunities available at Rydal Penrhos.

A strong academic with a flavour for the creative, Tallulah benefitted enormously from the guidance and support of teaching staff during her initial transition. And this enabled her to be happy and thrive in her new surroundings.

Tallulah has thrown herself into almost everything throughout her senior school education. Her performances as Rydal Penrhos’ first XI hockey goalkeeper were of a high standard and played a leading role in the team’s success.

She has also taken the stage as part of music concerts and was part of the Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society cast for their extraordinary production of Les Miserables in 2018.

This was coupled with a fierce determination to succeed across all subjects at GCSE level, with Tallulah gaining four A*s, two 9s, two 7s and a Distinction in Further Mathematics from her examination results.

Her desire to help younger members of the Rydal Penrhos community was especially evident during her time as a Sixth Former. This saw Tallulah become a member of the Health and Wellbeing Committee and assist with various charity events put on by the school for worthy causes across the region and beyond.

Tallulah also took part in the school’s latest charity mission to Uganda last summer, and the pupil was a member of the Rydal Penrhos contingent who went on an unforgettable trip to India, which proved to be another invaluable experience to take into later life.

Her artistic exploits also secured some national recognition, with Tallulah finishing as runner-up in the U16 category at the Museum of Modern Art for Wales’ annual competition during her time at the school.

In recognition for her outstanding contribution across school life, Tallulah was appointed joint-Deputy Head Girl alongside Holly Battersby after impressing considerably during the application process.

Another notable highlight from Tallulah’s time at Rydal Penrhos was her progression through the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. This is another wonderful opportunity across various year groups and something that has secured a rich history of achievements since its inception.

Tallulah became the latest to add her name to those that attained a prestigious DofE Gold Award earlier this year, which represents another incredible accomplishment from a pupil that is the embodiment of what a Rydal Penrhos education can provide.
