The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Advent at Rydal Penrhos School
October 31, 2025

As pupils return for the final weeks of the Advent Term, Rydal Penrhos previews the events that will make the run-up to Christmas so special.

It is hard to believe that the festive season is almost upon us. At Rydal Penrhos, this is a magical time of year – one filled with joy, reflection, and community spirit. As a Methodist school, we place great value on the deeper meaning of Advent, while also celebrating the much-loved traditions that make this period such a highlight of the school calendar.

With that in mind, here’s a preview of six key events we’re looking forward to this Christmas season:

FORPS Winter Ball (Saturday 29 November)
The ever-popular Winter Ball returns. Join us for an evening of festive elegance, featuring welcome drinks, a seasonal menu, and dancing to our resident DJ. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the season with the Rydal Penrhos family. Tickets are selling fast, so be sure to book soon – the link will be included in the Saturday email before term resumes.

Christmas Fayre (Wednesday 3 December)
Our whole-school Christmas Fayre is back – bigger and better than ever! Enjoy the festive atmosphere as you browse stalls from local artisans and businesses offering unique gift ideas. A joyful occasion for the whole Rydal Penrhos community and an unmissable start to the Christmas season.

Open Morning (Friday 5 December)
Our final Open Morning of 2025 begins with a welcome from the Principal, followed by a guided tour of the campus. Guests are then invited to enjoy lunch in the Dining Room, where you can meet our pupils and staff and experience what Estyn described as a “strong sense of community.”

Pre-School and Key Stage 1 Nativity (Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 December)
Always a highlight of the festive calendar, our youngest pupils will take to the stage in St John’s Church for this year’s enchanting Nativity. Parents will delight in seeing their children perform with confidence and joy – a truly heart-warming moment that captures the spirit of Christmas.

Senior Inter-House Christmas Song Contest (Wednesday 10 December)
Morgan, Osborn, Payne, and Wesley Houses will once again compete for the coveted Inter-House Christmas Song title. This much-loved event brings laughter, creativity, and festive cheer to the Senior School, as pupils showcase their musical talents and house spirit.

Christmas Carol Concert (Thursday 11 December)
A cherished Rydal Penrhos tradition, our Carol Concert in St John’s Church is one of the most uplifting moments of the year. Pupils, staff, families, alumni, and friends gather to sing favourite carols. The evening’s beauty – from the stained-glass windows to the joyful voices – ends perfectly with mulled wine and mince pies shared among friends.

We look forward to celebrating the Advent season together and making lasting memories in the weeks ahead. With term resuming on Monday, it won’t be long before Rydal Penrhos begins to sparkle with the spirit of Christmas once more.
