Enrichment Focus: Rugby 7s (Y10-13)
January 15, 2020

This special series features a more in-depth look at the wealth of enrichment opportunities available at Rydal Penrhos Senior School throughout the spring term.

Monday: Rugby 7s (Y10-13)

A perfect chance for the school’s aspiring Rugby 7s players to enhance their potential with ex-professional Rob O’Donnell, who is a widely respected figure within the game and has been a hugely significant addition to Rydal Penrhos’ sporting provision since the start of the academic year.

They will learn all aspects of the 7s discipline, which is vastly different from the more traditional rugby union, ahead of a series of upcoming fixtures throughout the spring.

The school has enjoyed a tremendous amount of rugby 7s success in recent years at high-profile competitions across the country, most notably at the Rosslyn Park 7s and Northern England Championships.

Each pupil taking part will get some expert guidance from Mr O’Donnell, who recently retired as a professional following a glittering 14-year career.

He began his career at Waterloo before making a high-profile switch to Sale Sharks, where he made 35 appearances.

This was followed by a spell with Rotherham Titans over a two-year period, and Mr O’Donnell also enjoyed hugely successful stints at Worcester Warriors and Yorkshire Carnegie.

The rugby 7s players will improve skills, conditioning and teamwork within a competitive setting during their Monday coaching, which is sure to stand them in good stead in the weeks and months ahead.
