From STEM to Stage: Upcoming School Events at Rydal Penrhos
February 23, 2026

Rydal Penrhos School previews some of the most notable school events taking place in the coming weeks.

At many schools, the stretch from January to Easter can feel like a quieter passage in the calendar — a steady rhythm of lessons with little beyond the timetable. That is not the case at Rydal Penrhos.

Here, the second half of Lent Term promises to be one of the most dynamic periods of the academic year. From national mathematics competitions and careers networking to flagship musical performance and the launch of our new boarding chapter, the weeks ahead reflect the breadth of opportunity available to our pupils.

Here is a look at what’s to come:

Industry and Enterprise Day

Thursday 26 February

Our latest Industry and Enterprise Day will bring together exhibitors from a wide range of sectors, offering pupils invaluable insight into future career pathways. The event creates space for meaningful conversations between young people and professionals, helping to bridge classroom learning with real-world ambition.

We are delighted to welcome Wing Commander Penny Butterfield, Base Operations Officer at RAF Valley, who will deliver the keynote address. Alongside this, pupils will take part in focused workshops centred on resilience, adaptability and interview technique — equipping them not simply for their first role, but for a lifetime of evolving opportunity.

UKMT Team Maths Challenge

Friday 6 March

For the first time in many years, Rydal Penrhos will host the UKMT Team Maths Challenge — the premier national team competition organised by the UK Mathematics Trust.

We look forward to welcoming leading schools from across North Wales and the North West for a day of high-level problem solving, collaboration and mathematical flair. The event underlines our strong commitment to STEM, which resulted in outstanding GCSE Maths early entry results in January.

Rugby Sevens Tournament

Wednesday 18 March

Sponsored by 75point3.

Join us for an afternoon of high-quality rugby sevens.

This well-established tournament offers an excellent platform for schools preparing for the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, with top-class facilities and a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates the very best of youth rugby. Pupils, parents and friends of the school are warmly encouraged to attend and support what promises to be an exciting showcase of talent and sportsmanship.

Boarding Information Evening

Thursday 19 March

As we prepare to open our new Sixth Form Boarding provision this September, we invite families to attend our Boarding Information Evening.

Guests will tour New House (formerly Glan Aber), learn about the structure of weekly boarding, and gain a clear understanding of the academic and pastoral framework that will underpin this new chapter. It is an opportunity to explore how boarding at Rydal Penrhos is designed to support focused A-Level study within a supportive, close-knit community.

Whole School Open Morning

Friday 20 March

Our Whole School Open Morning offers an authentic experience of daily life at Rydal Penrhos.

There are no staged scenes or rehearsed demonstrations — simply the opportunity to see lessons in action, meet our Principal Mr Hutchinson, speak with staff and pupils, and enjoy lunch in the Dining Room. For families considering joining our community, it provides a genuine and unfiltered insight into the atmosphere and ethos of the School.

Spring Concert

Thursday 26 March

One of the highlights of our cultural calendar, the Spring Concert will showcase musical talent from Reception to Sixth Form.

Expect an eclectic and ambitious programme where Rachmaninoff and Radiohead sit comfortably side by side. The evening reflects the confidence and creativity nurtured across the School, and the joy of collective performance.

Year 3–8 Ski Trip

Sunday 29 March – Saturday 4 April

Our Years 3 to 8 Ski Trip departs to Pinzolo in Italy at the close of term, offering younger pupils the chance to enjoy themselves on the slopes.

With the XXV Winter Olympic Games capturing imaginations globally, the trip provides not only skiing development but also fun, independence and shared experience. For many, it may mark the beginning of a lifelong passion.

Easter Revision Courses

Monday 30 March – Wednesday 1 April

Now firmly established in our academic calendar, the Easter Revision Courses provide focused preparation ahead of the summer examination season.

Open to both Rydal Penrhos pupils and external attendees, these structured sessions offer subject-specific guidance, exam technique refinement and a productive learning environment designed to build confidence at a crucial stage of the year.

As Lent Term moves towards Easter, the range of experiences on offer — academic, cultural, sporting and aspirational — reflects the breadth of life at Rydal Penrhos.

Whether welcoming visitors, hosting regional competitions, preparing boarders for September, or supporting pupils towards their next milestone, the weeks ahead promise purpose, performance and possibility in equal measure.
