Rufus becomes RP’s youngest sailor thanks to summer involvement
September 23, 2019

An intrepid Preparatory School pupil enhanced his experiences during the holidays thanks to his involvement with a thriving extra-curricular provision.

Rufus Glanville, a Year 2 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, spent part of his summer acclimatising himself with the water at the school’s RYA Accredited sailing department, taking part in their specialist coaching provision which is available to Prep and Senior pupils.

The six-year-old was the youngest pupil taking part in the initiative during the holidays and he thrived under the expert guidance and support of dedicated coaching staff within the department.

The Rydal Penrhos RYA Training Centre Sailing and Water-Sports provision is for all pupils who love being in, on and around the water, enabling them to participate and enjoy the freedom of boating, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking in a safe and fun environment.

Rydal Penrhos is one of the few schools in the UK that are able to teach sailing and water-sports as part of an enhanced curriculum for pupils from Year 3 to Year 8.

Assistant Head Catherine Hughes, said: “Rufus’ enthusiasm and energy in everything he turns his hand to is going to serve him extremely well during the remainder of his education, and it was no surprise to hear of him excelling during our dedicate sailing programme during the summer months.

“He was made to feel at ease by our wonderful staff team and had a tremendous amount of support from his fellow pupils, which enabled him to learn at his own pace and broaden his experiences outside of the classroom.”
