Rugby 7s: U16 tournament cancelled due to adverse weather
March 11, 2020

Rydal Penrhos School’s weekend U16 Rugby 7s competition has unfortunately fallen victim to the weather.

Teacher Nicky Head and head groundsman Tony Owen inspected the New Field pitch and other playing areas on Tuesday morning, which have been sodden due to the recent heavy rain that has blighted the region over the last month.

Given the weather forecast towards the end of the week, the school has taken the decision to cancel the tournament ahead of time.

Mrs Head, said: “This is not a decision we wanted to make as everyone was very much looking forward to the competition.

“The safety of players is paramount and with all the rain we have had in the area recently it has left the pitches very unsteady underfoot.

“There will be more rain towards the end of the week here in Colwyn Bay, which would make things even more difficult.

“I would like to apologise to everyone who was participating. We are hoping for better luck next year!”
