Talented Rydal Penrhos skier Cameron Pye gave a tremendous account of himself at the British Schools’ Skiing Championships to continue his impressive form.
Skiing is a unique provision provided by Rydal Penrhos and has brought the school a considerable amount of success over the years. Many pupils have gone on to achieve great things, with some even making a name for themselves at the Great British level thanks to the outstanding coaching they receive.
This is something that our pupils love – testing themselves in an unfamiliar setting and developing core skills that can transition from different interests in and out of the classroom.
Rydal Penrhos pupils have once again excelled throughout the current academic year. Prep stars are thriving in a competitive setting and Sixth Former Chay Bonnington’s hard work was rewarded with selection to the Wales U18 squad after meeting all necessary criteria.
Another skier making a name for himself is Cameron Pye, who continued his impressive form with an encouraging performance at the British Schools’ Artificial Skiing Championships.
Although Rydal Penrhos’ involvement in the team event was hindered by illness and examinations, Cameron still made the trip to the English Ski Schools’ Association showcase, which featured some of the best young talents from across the country.
Cameron acquitted himself superbly in the face of some stern competition. The boys’ slalom was a hotly contested occasion, but the pupil dug deep and finished 17th out of 69 competitors that concluded their runs from differing age groups.
Chay, Jack Dougherty and August Ball-Iversen were the Rydal Penrhos pupils that unfortunately missed out. But we are proud of their accomplishments during the qualification phase and would like to congratulate Cameron on another top-level effort.
