Former Rydal Penrhos pupil Sam Stelmaszek turned out for the fledgling Poland rugby team against Wales U20s.
Rydal Penrhos has produced a large number of international-calibre rugby players throughout history. From the days of Wilf Wooller and Bleddyn Williams to the modern hopefuls forging their way into the professional game, the school remains enormously proud of providing the necessary foundations for pupils to flourish long after they join our ever-growing Alumni network.
Many aspiring stars have played a significant role in RGC 1404‘s meteoric rise up the Welsh domestic pyramid. Tom Williams has been part of the Wales 7s set-up in recent years and Sean Lonsdale is knocking on the Wales senior door after making the switch to Dragons from Exeter Chiefs last summer.
Another ex-pupil looking to make a name for himself is Sam Stelmaszek, who thrived as a Sixth Former at Rydal Penrhos and gained another well-deserved taste of international action for the upstart Poland squad against Wales U20s on Friday 20 January.
The squad, who are looking to establish themselves as a future rugby force on the continent, got a treat leading up to the contest when Welsh internationals Scott Baldwin and Bradley Davies attended training sessions. They provided valuable information about what it takes to succeed at the highest level, which will prove invaluable to the team moving forward.
Although the Poland squad didn’t attain victory against the Welsh U20s, they did manage two tries at Cardiff Arms Park and will look to build on this promising outing throughout the campaign.
Sam came to Rydal Penrhos and immediately joined the RGC age-grade set-up before moving on to Sale, Macclesfield and Manchester Rangers. He has also turned out for Sedgley Park Tigers during a promising career to date.
Everyone at Rydal Penrhos would like to congratulate Sam and wish him the very best of luck with the Poland international squad this season.
