John Millington came away with bragging rights from the 2022 Pochin Cup, a major highlight on the Rydal Penrhos Golf Society calendar.
The Rydal Penrhos Golf Society is a thriving golf group that includes both former and current pupils. A number of competitions are held throughout the year, which enables members to reunite with former schoolmates and test their skills on some of the most picturesque courses in the country.
The Pochin Cup, presented by Nick Pochin and first played for at Eaton Hall Golf Club, Chester in 1987, is one such event. It’s always well attended and the 2022 showcase proved to be no different.
No fewer than 20 players descended on Sandiway Golf Club on Tuesday 13 September for the Pochin Cup. This represented a fantastic turnout and further added to what is always a special occasion.
After a hotly contested day on the course, John Millington emerged victorious with 37 points, with Matt Bennett close behind in second position with 36.
Paul Burgess, who is a former pupil and current member of the school’s Governing Body, rounded off the podium placing in third after securing 35 points as a result of his efforts.
After the completion of each round, Golf Society members enjoyed a fabulous two-course meal and drinks within the clubhouse to conclude yet another outstanding event.
In 2021, Guy Watson was succeeded in the position of secretary by his son, Richard Watson. Anyone wishing to acquire further information about the Rydal Penrhos Golf Society should email alumni@rydalpenrhos.com or call 01492 530155.
